Transition and Reentry Specialist
We are currently expanding our mentoring, transition and reentry programs to offer additional support to women prior to and after their release from prison. This new position will play a key role in this effort. We are seeking a positive and energetic person with skills and experience in program development, program management and counseling to provide direct services to and provide advocacy and support for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women to help them to achieve post-release success.
JOB SUMMARY:
As many as 82% of incarcerated women struggle with mental health and/or addiction issues in addition to facing a multitude of barriers to successful reentry after prison. This position is responsible for supporting women to realize post-release success by providing evidence-based and spiritually-grounded education, counseling and support, skills development and case management, as well as other programs and services. This position reports to and works in tandem with the Executive Director and acts to uphold the mission of IPMW.

PRIMARY RELATIONSHIPS:
In tandem with the Executive Director, must develop and maintain excellent relationships with clients, NC Department of Public Safety and prison staff, IPMW board and staff, faith communities, volunteers, the business community, nonprofit partners and others.
WORK REQUIREMENTS
Schedule negotiable. Some evenings and weekends required.
JOB TYPE:
Exempt position at 25 hours per week.
COMPENSATION:
$31,250 - $34,375 ($50,000 – $55,000 annualized) depending on experience. Pro-rated health insurance stipend, paid time and leave and other organizational benefits.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
TRANSITION EDUCATION
- Develop and teach curriculum for JobStart Fridays and JAGS (Job Accountability Group Support) Transition Tuesday programs. Oversee the mentor component of JobStart and JAGS and work with partners for the fulfillment of both programs.
- Develop, conduct and/or coordinate other transition education programs for women at the Unit, as approved by the prison.
- Conduct or oversee individual and group counseling for formerly incarcerated women.
- Establish a solid mental health and addiction recovery referral network.
- Provide clinical support to chaplains and volunteers and supervise MSW interns through social work placements.
POST-RELEASE SERVICES
- Establish and oversee case management and case management tracking system.
- In conjunction with other staff, liaise with partner organizations and other service providers to help women successfully secure practical assistance, obtain necessary mental health and addiction recovery services, reunite with their families and communities, and meet their highest potential post-release.
- Develop and conduct trainings for clients and volunteers in service to the work.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in designing, conducting and analyzing program evaluation.
- Attend monthly staff meetings and quarterly staff gatherings.
- Attend regular 1:1 meetings with Executive Director.
- Attend board meetings and retreats, as needed.
- Participate in and attend meetings of the IPMW Board Program Committee.
- Additional responsibilities as necessary.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5-8 years work experience.
- MSW or equivalent degree.
- Experience working with high-risk women and youth.
- Teaching or training experience and strong facilitation skills.
- Strong organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and management.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both oral and written forms with excellent presentation skills.
- Proficient in use of technology – including standard operating systems, MS Office products, databases, and CRM.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience or certification in Trauma Informed Therapy, Cognitive or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, Somatic Therapies, Art or Music Therapies, or similar.
- Criminal justice and/or social justice education, background or experience.
- MDiv or other religious degree or certification.
- Demonstrated experience in effective organizing strategies.
- Inclusive, empathetic worldview and demonstrated effectiveness working across lines of difference.
