Episode 2: A Taste of Prison

Picture

Featuring MC Valonda Calloway and led by IPMW’s Chaplain Sarah Jobe, IPMW Board member Jean Suber, Erin Kinlock, Jennifer Green-Lee, Cassandra Payne, and Jessica Trevena, this night will feature songs, poetry, and story-telling as we all learn to make “prison lasagna” and the “state cakes” that women make for each other’s birthdays while doing time. As with all birthdays in prison, this will be an evening in which grief and joy sit side by side, learning from women how to honor both the losses that are multiplied by prisons and the creative resilience that abounds in those who are locked up.

Jennifer Green-Lee is enjoying all of the perks of freedom like cooking in a real kitchen, working out, and writing slightly juvenile but sometimes witty poetry. She is delighted to be assisting in any way with such a great non-profit, and with her background as a lawyer, she is hoping to start her own to assist with the myriad of legal issues that the carceral system propagates.
Sarah Jobe is a chaplain with Interfaith Prison Ministry for Women and the Program Coordinator for Prison Studies at Duke Divinity School. She loves to garden, run, and read, and she is slowly chipping away at a doctorate in theology. Sarah is so grateful for the growth of IPMW in recent years as well as the growth of a community of talented, powerful, and fun women who are taking their Hope Center relationships with them after release.
Erin Kinlock is a Certified Peer Support Specialist who is working with At Risk Youth and sponsoring women with substance abuse and mental health issues. Erin loves to give back what was so freely given to her, enjoys life to the fullest and tries not to take herself too seriously. She is honored to be a part of celebrating IPMW and all the women they have helped.
Cassandra Payne lives in Raleigh and works at Capital Grill. In her spare time she loves to sing and help others. She is excited to be a part of this event because of all the wonderful people that are a part of IPMW.
Jean Suber works for the First Presbyterian Church operations team. She is also a board member for Interfaith Prison Ministry for Women. In her spare time, Jean is a portrait and lifestyle photographer who is passionate about capturing the beauty in others and the extraordinary in the ordinary. She is grateful to be a part of this celebration of IPMW and what it has done for numerous women such as herself.
Jessica Trevena works for NCDPS Correction Enterprises as an Executive Sales Associate.  In her spare time, she enjoys her four grandchildren. She is excited about being included in IPMW's anniversary because of  believing deeply in their mission.
