Emergency/Practical Assistance Fund
Arise Collective/Interfaith Prison Ministry for Women (IPMW) was inspired by the outpouring of care and concern people demonstrated across the country and in our community during the COVID-19 pandemic. With the support of local funding partners, we were able to establish an Emergency Assistance Fund to augment our prior Practical Assistance support. This assistance continues to this day.
What?
Emergency Assistance Fund to assist formerly incarcerated women with COVID-19 - impacted costs such as life essentials, prescriptions, cell phone and connectivity, transportation, rent or program fees, utilities, and expenses from other challenges brought about by the evolving global pandemic and its aftermath. Case management and systems navigation support will be available, where possible.
This fund is intended to supplement, not replace, other assistance available on the federal, state and community-level, as well as help to address potential collateral consequences that formerly justice-involved women may face in accessing these resources.
Women who have had their hours reduced or jobs eliminated because of the crisis may request to receive emergency financial assistance. The amount and distribution of these funds will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Requests for either a higher level of support or a second round of support will be considered on an individual basis.
When?
The program launched on March 26th and may include any of the following:
Who?
Priority will be given to women residing in Wake County, as well as former or current participants in at least one Arise Collective/IPMW program; this can be pre- or post-release and includes programs such as Peer Connect, JobStart, reentry mentoring, and any programs, classes or pastoral care with the Chaplains at the Canary Unit. IPMW will consider requests from formerly incarcerated women who reside outside of Wake County or have not participated in our programs on an as-available basis.
How?
Please call IPMW’s office at 919-829-0311 between 9 am – 5 pm Monday – Friday and leave a message clearly stating your name and call back number or send an email to assistance@ipmforwomen.org. Someone from staff will respond within 2 business days. Please call 911 if your emergency requires immediate response. Because of the health crisis, we will observe safety protocols and primarily use online, telephone and postal services for documentation and distribution of assistance. Thank you for your understanding.
