​The Anonymous Trust recently provided scholarship funding to Campbell University for the purpose of assisting five (5)  former justice-involved women in completing the associate’s degree through Campbell University’s downtown Raleigh, NC campus located at 225 Hillsborough Street.
 
Interfaith Prison Ministry for Women (IPMW) has partnered with Campbell University to provide housing and wrap around services (housing, case management, transportation, educational consultant support).

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSE)
  • A minimum reading score of the 10th-grade level
  • ​Successful assessment completion for the Test for Adult Basic Education (TABE) or the Wide Range Achievement Test (WRAT)
  • Released from prison within the past year
  • Reside in housing provided by Interfaith Prison Ministry for Women
  • Interest in pursuing the Associate’s degree in Behavioral Science or General Studies
  • Commitment to educational success

  • Having been in prison is not seen as a barrier; instead, your learned experience together with your academic knowledge and skills set you up for success
  • You will have direct access to me as the education consultant for this initiative
  • You will be assigned an academic advisor by Campbell University
  • The courses and expectations are the same as those for any other student at Campbell, so you know that you will come out with the skills to succeed
  • Either degree from Campbell University, one of the best private universities in North Carolina, will take a great deal of work; it is a full-time job, with classes meeting four days per week and study hall every afternoon

Associate of Science - Behavioral Science
  • 62 total credit hours needed for degree (40 general education core courses, 18 behavioral sciences concentration courses and 4 electives).
  • Prepares students for work in the human services field.  It sets the groundwork for graduates to work as a peer support specialist, with a core of liberal arts education combined with courses in social work, sociology, and psychology. 
  • Graduates from this program are qualified to work as peer counselors, with position titles such as case work aide, clinical social work aide, family service assistant, social work assistant, addictions counselor assistant, and human service worker.  You can continue on with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, with a minor in Addiction Studies, to prepare you for higher level jobs and moving ahead.
  • These occupations are projected to grow 17% from 2020 to 2030. ​
Associate in Arts - General Education
  • 62 total credit hours needed for degree (36 general education core courses and 26 semester hours of electives).
  • A generalist degree that provides maximum flexibility for entry level employment, career growth, or continuing education.
  • This program gives you a large number of electives, and you can tailor your degree to focus on different subjects, such as Business, Information Technology, Education, Christian Studies, Criminal Justice, and many others.

How much does the program cost?
  • The financial cost to you will be minimal to none.  We cover a full scholarship, room and board while school is in session, transportation to classes, and more.  When school is not in session, you may be asked to contribute toward housing expenses while residing in the home.  We will also ask you to seek federal Pell Funds to offset the cost of instruction. In all, the primary cost will be your time, energy, and effort – it will take a lot of those!
 
When will the program start?
  • The program is slated to start in January 2023
  • Registration – Tuesday, January 10th
  • Classes begin – Wednesday, January 11th 
 
How long will it take to complete the program?
  • If you take two courses per term, you will finish this program in two (2) years.  There are five (5) terms per year, each one lasting eight (8) weeks.
  • English 100 and Math 100 are required as pre-requisite English and Math courses unless documentation is provided showing one of the following: minimum SAT/ACT scores, minimum COMPASS or ASSET placement test scores or completion of previous college English and Math courses.
  • COSU 100 - Campbell Seminar must  be passed in the first semester.
  • Must meet the 62 credit requirement to graduate.
 
If I am accepted into the program, can I work?
  • Yes, all courses in this program are offered either in the evening/at night on campus, online, or in hybrid (combined) modes.
  • English and Math courses will be taken in the evening/at night on campus.
 
What happens if I don’t finish the program?
  • You will receive credit for all courses that you have completed, and you can either finish your degree at a later date, or transfer the courses to another university.
 
What about books and a computer?
  • All books, supplies and a laptop computer will be provided for you at no cost to you.
 
What if I struggle while enrolled in the program?
  • You should expect to struggle.  Everyone struggles with some part of their college education.  However, you will have a dedicated academic advisor from Campbell University and a committed educational consultant from Interfaith Prison Ministry for Women who will help guide and counsel you through the program.
  • We also have tutors available for challenging courses.
  • Required to have a minimum GPA of 2.0 in the major (Behavioral Science or General Studies) and overall to graduate.
